A series of painting entitled the “Football Players” modifies Nicolas de Staël’s way of painting by relying on the canvas, making him worry about how to represent a present experience which “has trouble” taking shape. This pictorial turning point can be interpreted as the translation of adolescent tension that is trying to stay close to the vital form of experience and which is erased as soon as it takes shape.

La série des tableaux « Les footballeurs » modifie chez Nicolas de Staël sa façon de peindre en prenant appui sur la toile, générant chez lui le souci de représenter une expérience présente qui « peine » à prendre forme. Ce tournant pictural peut s’interpréter comme la traduction de la tension adolescente qui cherche à se tenir au plus près de la forme vitale de l’expérience et qui s’en trouve effacée dès qu’elle a pris corps.
